Is earwax removal painful?Your ears are in safe hands with The Ear Specialist. With us, your earwax removal experience should be quick and painless. You may feel a slight tickling sensation from the removal of the wax. If you feel uncomfortable at any moment then we will stop straight away
-
What can I expect at my appointment? You will be greeted by The Ear Specialist team and invited to tell us about the problems you are experiencing with your ears. During the consultation, we will examine your ears, take photographs where necessary and advise you of any treatment that might be required. If needed, we will perform our specialist microsuction treatment to remove impacted earwax from you ears. This can all be performed in the same clinic visit. You will also be required to sign a consent form to state that you are happy to proceed.
-
Do I need to use ear drops before my appointment? We recommend that you ideally use a week's course of olive oil or sodium bicarbonate drops prior to your appointment to help soften the wax to prevent any pain on removal. We can usually remove all earwax with our microsuction and probe technique. Rarely, if the earwax is severely impacted and stuck to the skin, we may advise delaying the treatment further and softening the wax more before you come for a follow up appointment.
-
I’ve had ear surgery – can I still have microsuction?Yes, you can! We would advise that you wait for a minimum of six weeks after any major ear surgery but you can always contact us if you are unsure.
-
The most unusual thing that you have removed someone’s ears?Nothing is too unusual for us! Babybel wax (bad idea to use as an earplug!), cotton buds, sequins, beads, ear studs and even insects! If you have something stuck in your ears, book to see The Ear Specialist here
-
Can I have photographs of my ear?Yes, we take before & after photographs of your ears during our consultation which we can email to you for a small fee.
-
Do you offer home visits? We provide home visits. Our fee is inclusive of examination, diagnosis and whichever treatments may be necessary for you. Request a home visit here
-
Do you treat patients in nursing & care homes?Absolutely! The elderly are at the highest risk of reversible hearing loss which can impact on their hearing, wellbeing and mental state. We are passionate about taking care of the elders in our society and offer a discount to nursing & care home residents. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a visit for your residents
-
Do you treat children? Not at present. The Ear Specialist currently provides treatment for all adults aged 18 years old and above.
-
Can I change my appointment? We appreciate that your circumstances may change and ask that you contact us as soon as possible if you need to change or cancel your appointment. Changes can be made free of charge up to 24 hours before the appointment. After this time, we will refund the full amount charged minus our consultation & examination fee.
